UNAIR NEWS– Rector of 51动漫 Prof.Moh.Nasih is honored to deliver a keynote speech in the Asia-Pacific Rector Forum.In the forum held on 20-21 November, 2017. Prof. Nasih delivered a presentation entitled Industry 4.0: Roles of Universities in Preparing The 4th Industrial Revolution-Ready Generation.The event generally discussed the theme of “Challenges and Opportunities of Higher Education in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
In the Forum held at Asia University International Conference Hall, Taiwan, Prof.Nasih said that in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0 as the result of technological advances and the social development, the campuses must be more capable of producing competent generations.Universities in Indonesia, both public and private, including UNAIR, strive to understand and address these conditions proportionately.
“Because the quality of the academicians will affect the output or form of the campus contribution to the community,” he explained.
The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has brought more complexity to the needs of the community andstakeholders.“Then, the campus should be able to meet the challenge by preparing a brilliant generation ready to compete in the present era, ” he added.
The Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education has outlined the obligation for the universities to conduct Tri Dharma of Higher Education.This way, the soft skills and academic skills of the academicians are well-trained.In the present era, Tri Dharma Higher Education, ie education, research, and community service, must be directed to the right target so the quality expected is achieved.In accordance with the demands of the community and stakeholders.
Aspects that need to be owned by academicians according to Prof.Nasih is the ability to master the convergence of Information Technology (IT), Operational Technology (OT), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data Analytic.
“UNAIR has been and is implementing them.Convergence of technology-based elements will create a decentralized decision-making system.All become faster, precise, and in accordance with the demand of time, ” he explained.
There are many ways that universities can do to prepare human resources according to the demand of time, such as making the effort to provide higher education based on entrepreneurship in all fields or disciplines, the development of Research Based Learning, as well as the strengthening integrated inter-fields education for example, students majoring in management, also learn about information technology and communication strategies.
“With this mechanism, the campus can facilitate the establishment of interdisciplinary educational schemes.UNAIR has done that, for example by establishing Airlangga Health and Science Institute or AHSI.At AHSI, not only academics of medicine and health are involved, but also experts in the field of management, social, and so on, “said Prof. Nasih.
Furthermore, Prof.Nasih also said that universities should also require lecturers and students to conduct compulsory field studies.Thus, the demand at every level of society can be known for certain.They should also participate in community-based learning.
“It should be aimed to find solutions to territorial issues, whether local, regional, national, and even international.Until now, UNAIR has also been actively conducting a comprehensive study in the community up to the level of ASEAN and the world, ” explained the Professor FEB UNAIR.
In the end, Prof.Nasih reiterated that the campus should be open to information.There must be a good management information system.So that each unit can work and move forward together because, synergy and integrity are always the keys to success in every competition.
Universities must be more active in translating the demands of the community, the market, and stake holders.Thus, an educational strategy or direction can be set with an appropriate target.In addition, he said that the universities should also be concerned with government policy.So they must have a role in providing concrete input for executives.As an educational social entity, this role is an inherent responsibility.
“The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has brought significant changes in the global marketplace.The impact is spreading to all areas of life.Including education, “said Prof.Nasih.
Therefore, said Prof.Nasih, universities should not be stagnant and easily feel complacent.They should not turn a blind eye to the changes.Students should be provided with capabilities appropriate to the demands of stakeholders and the community.Thus, their usefulness can be more optimal.
In the forum, Prof Nasih gathered with rectors and institutional leaders from various countries, including antaranya Chang-Hai Tsai, M.D, Ph.D (Founder & Chairman of the Board Asia University), Dr. Chung-Laung Liu (Academician, Academia Sinica R.O.C), Jong-Tsung Huang (President of Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan), Jeffrey J.P. Tsai (President of Asia University), Huey-Jen Su (President of National Cheng Kung University).
Satyendra Patnaik (Rector / Advisor KiiT University of India), Singharajwarapan (Acting President of Chiang Mai University of Thailand), and Yao-Ting Sung (Vice President of National Taiwan Normal University).From Indonesia there will be Rector of Diponegoro University Yos Johan and Rector of Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta Gunawan.
