UNAIR NEWS “ As thekeynotespeakerat an international seminar and conference entitledReaffirming Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs in Airlangga Internationalon Saturday, November 4. Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi reminded and emphasized that all elements of Indonesia have an obligation to spread the values ‹‹of tolerance.
She attended the seminar and conference initiated by the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), 51¶¯Âþ.Taking place in Kahuripan 300 Campus C UNAIR, Retno gave a presentation about Indonesian foreign policy in presence of 200 participants.
Previously, she asked threestudentsto answer three questions from her.They are Tri, Yufrin, and Dinda.Each gets a different question.
“What can (Tri) read from the development of the world today?What has (Yufrin) understood from the implementation of diplomacy in Indonesia?And, (Dinda), what do you know about ASEAN, both its advantages and disadvantages? “said Retno.
The three questions were successfully answered by the UNAIR students.For example, according to Dinda, ASEAN is a fairly safe and neutral region.Both political and military.
Furthermore, Retno explained the tasks of foreign policy.Among other things, first, to fight for the national interest that includes the protection of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (protecting the house), Indonesian citizens (occupants), and economic diplomacy.Second, to contribute to the world.
Regarding the good prospects, she added, they do not necessarily exist without any obstacles.As the data released by World Bank, Indonesia’s economy in 2017 is quite good and better in 2018.
Nevertheless, Retno said that Indonesia has challenges that can be divided into two, challenges in economic andtransnationalorganized crimesuch as terrorism, radicalism, human trafficking, and drugs.
“What we need to anticipate is that every individual can contribute more.We all have an obligation to spread the values ‹‹of tolerance, ” she said.“There is a part that can be done both by the state and all of us.The difference is there not to be destroyed.If tolerance can be developed, this differences will actually strengthen Indonesia, “Retno added.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector III Prof.M. Amin Alamsjah also attended and opened the seminar and conference.Apart from UNAIR, participants also come from other universities such as from the National Development University “Veteran” East Java (UPN Jatim).(*)
