UNAIR NEWS “ As shown in the history, Indonesia and Cambodia have established cooperative relations since the 1953 independence struggle. It is not only political diplomacy, but also culture, such as in the restoration of Angkor Wat Temple.
The construction of Angkor Wat was inspired from the Borobudur Temple.At that time Mataram ruled over Southeast Asia, including Champa, and built Borobudur Temple and Medut.Impressed by its beauty, King Jayawarman II and his son, Suryawarman II, from Cambodia gained the experience of making temples.
Given the close relationship between Indonesia and Cambodia, the Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP), UNAIR, held a guest lecture entitledEducation Policy in Developing Country in the Context of Regionalization and Globalizationon Monday, October 23.Located in Adi Sukadana Room, as the speaker, Dr.Chankoulika BO, lecturer at the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE).
“In this rare opportunity, hopefully students can learn about Indonesia’s relationship with Cambodia and know more about Cambodia, “said Prof.Dra.Myrtati Dyah Artaria M.A., Ph.D in her speech.
Chankoulika began her presentation by introducing the profile of Kingdom of Wonder, Cambodia.Cambodia is bordered by Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, with Phnom Penh as the capital city.The language used is Khmer.
“Cambodia is still categorized aslow income country.However, in the long run, Cambodia has a strategic plan to raise GDP by 2030 from $ 4,036 to $ 12,475 and become a developed country by 2050, “Chankauolika explained.
He added that Cambodia is trying to be equal with Indonesia, in terms of education, facilities, and economy.Thus, various policy measures were taken to improve Cambodia’s postwar conditions, from a peace agreement to join regional organizations such as ASEAN.
“Indonesia and Cambodia are linked in the ASEAN principle of mutual respect for self-reliance, sovereignty, equality, territorial integrity and national identity.Even so, the principle of kinship continues to maintain through diplomacy as well as the active role of the Indonesian military, “said Kolika.
In her first guest lecture, she was very enthusiastic with the spirit of the students who attend to answer the questions.And, Kolika hoped to meet again, whether given the opportunity to go to Indonesia again or in Cambodia.
