UNAIRNEWS The phenomenon of teak wood stealing by certain social network in Tuban has become a social problem interesting to study further. The stealing is done systematically and neatly.
It was presented by the lecturer of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) 51 (UNAIR), Drs. H. Moh. Adib, MA, in his dissertation. The dissertation titled Sedhakep Angawe-Awe: Kajian Jaringan Sosial Pencurian Kayu Jati di Perhutani, Kabupaten Tuban, Provinsi Jawa Timur, was defended well by Adib against examiners on Friday, Spetember 2, in Adi Sukadana hall.
The nine examiners were Prof. Dr. Kacung Marijan, MA., Prof. Dr. Mustain, M.Si., Prof. Heddy Ahimsa-Putra, M.A., Ph.D., (Mada anthropologist), Prof. Dr. Budi Prasetyo, M.Si., Dr. Suparto Wijoyo, Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr. Sp.U., Prof. Dr. Djoko Mursinto, Drs.Ec., M.Ec.There were also academic examiners Ir. H. Yahya Amin, MP., (Secretary of Regional Division of Perhutani East Java) and Dr. Ir. H. Mustoha Iskandar, M.Sc, the Chairman of Supervising Board Perhutani.
Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry, Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya Bakar, M.Sc., sent some flowers and a short text message congratulating Adib. Congratulations for the highest academic achievements, said Siti in the message to 182nd doctor of FISIP UNAIR.
The study has specifically referred to three areas of Forest Management Unit (KPH) in Tuban, KPH Tuban, KPH Parengan and KPH Jatirogo. In his dissertation, Adid showed some interesting points related to the teak wood stealing in Tuban Regency. First, the practice of teak wood stealing in the decade of 2010s is an inherited practice from three decades before. Second, the stealing was promoted by inside men of the appointed field officers of Perum Perhutani called madun in collaboration with the authority with social networking pattern sedhakep angawe-awe ().
Third, the perpetrators in the social network of this wood stealing were the inhabitants, security officers, police officers, Perhutani officials, and wood processing industry practitioners. Fourth, they use their social networking of friendship, kinship, combination of friendship and kinship, shared-interests, and powership. Fifth, the stealing practice has been done among people in the related social relations with relational, structural, transactional and clientele.
Pak Adibs study was a brave effort to disclose teak wood stealing phenomenon in Tuban, so hopefully this findings can be a reference and solutions on the happening social problems, said one of the examiner, Soeparto. The study overall was deemed excellent by the examiners and achieve satisfying result. (*)
