UNAIR NEWS 51动漫 is conferring an honorary degree to the nobel laureate for Economics in 2003, Prof. Robert F. Engle III, on Monday, Feb 20. The conferment of the title of doctor honoris causa will be presented by UNAIR Rector and witness by the Academic Senate of 51动漫 in Airlangga Convention Center.
UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak, said that this honorary degree is awarded as an appreciation to Prof. Engle who has made major contributions in the development of science especially in Economics.
淲e are awarding this honorary degree to Professor Engle who has made major contributions to science development, especially for developing an method which can save a country from economic crisis, said Nasih during press conference on Friday, February 17.
The method meant was about economic volatility developed by Engle and his partner Professor Clive W.J. Granger of University of California San Diego (UCSD). With this method, researchers and practitioners can predict economic condition, especially the finance based on time series.
淓ngle has a model of Economics based on time series which can be used to predict conditions in the future, especially in finance. This model is very useful for countries to prevent crisis from happening, said Nasih.
After the conferment, Engle will deliver a public lecture titled 淭he Prospects for Global Financial Stability before 2,000 people in the same place. Beside Engle, it will be attended by Chairman of Advisory Council of Finance Service Authority (OJK), Muliaman D. Hadad, CEO Trans Corporation Chairul Tanjung, and moderated by senor journalist Desi Anwar.
He is the Nobel prize winner in Economics in 2003, Engle is also a professor and researcher of Stern School of Business, New York University (NYU). He is a member of National Academy of Science and in the Advisory Board of the International Peace Foundation (IPF). At the moment, he is the Director of the NYU Stern Volatility Institute and a co-founding president of the Society for Financial Econometrics (SoFiE), a global non-profit organization housed at NYU.
Public lectures of Nobel Laureates is a part of The 6thASEAN Event Series 淏ridges Dialogue For A Cultural of Peace. It is routinely held by IPF since 2003. The countries which have held this events are Thailand, the Phillipines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Singapore. In 2017, Indonesia also holds this events and one of them is in UNAIR.
