UNAIR Banyuwangi Students Volunteer for Jempol Goes to School Action

UNAIR NEWS In a way to spend their spare time wisely, several students from a few programs at the of Program (PSDKU) 51 in Banyuwangi volunteered for Jempol Goes to School (JGTS) 4 Action at SDN 2 Kemiren, Banyuwangi on Saturday (4/3).

Jempol is a social community in Banyuwangi which focuses on education for the children of Blambangan Land. This community consists of graduates and students who were born or once studied in this farthest east regency of Java.

The chairman of Jempol Banyuwangi, Erwin Kurniawan, said that his community is open for any graduates or students who want to join as volunteers for JGTS 4. Among them are the 51. The aim is so that the events can facilitate them to contribute for the education development, as well as to put spirit and motivation into the education for children of Banyuwangi.

Abdulloh Faisol, the managing event director of JGTS 4 Action at SDN 2 Kemiren Banyuwangi explained that this JGTS 4 event chose Safety Riding as its topic with 3 main activities, namely encouraging the students of SDN 2 Kemiren to read more, giving information about safe vehicles, and introducing good parenting skills to the students parents. This event also involved several Traffic Unit Police Officers (Satlantas) of Banyuwangi to present some materials on Safety Riding.

According to Hodimatum Mahiroh, one of the volunteers from 51, to her this JGTS 4 event gave her new experience on how to come back home and serve after emigrating; also to assist them who need guidance.

Even though Im not a native Banyuwangi, the spirit of the graduates who are united in this Jempol community has raised my awareness that no matter how success we are, we have to keep contributing to our hometown, just like people who never forget their roots, said Mahiroh. (*)
