UNAIR NEWS– One of the Student Activity Unit (UKM) of (UNAIR) made another achievement.It was an achievement from Bridge Club which wins 1st place in the Asia Pacific Bridge Federation Open Youth Championship 2018 competition in Junior U-26 category.
The competition hosted by Asia Pacific Bridge Federation (APBF), assisted by GABSI (Association of Bridge of Indonesia).The competition was held at Wisma Kinasih, Bogor on 13-20 April 2018.
It was achieved by six members of the team.Four members from UNAIR, and two other junior athletes of East Java. Students from UNAIR were Restu Narendra (student of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine), Reza R. (student of Faculty of Nursing), Fatur R. (student of Faculty of Nursing), and Stefanus Endras Wijayanto (student of Faculty of Science and Technology).
Stefanus asserted that the possibility of winning will be very small with minimal training.To prepare for the competition, he continued, the training was done for two months.Within two months, members had exercises twice a week.
“Intensive exercise done twice a week, onweekdayand onweekend, conducted face to face, discuss theories, and practice inteam match, “explained Stefanus.
Before the competition, continued Stefanus, the team had followed the Surabaya Mayor’s Cup and Ubaya檚 Cup in March.“As a warm-up event,” explained Stefanus.
Not only that, the team also practiceonlineonce a week by using Bridge Base Online application and follow the tournamentonline.
With intensive training, from the beginning, they had targeted to win the first place. “Praise God the target was achieved,” he continued.
Stefanus continued, the competition stage ran well and smoothly.But after entering the semi-finals on Thursday, April 19, there was more tension.However, each member of the team showed their best performance.
“The most difficult opponents faced were China and Hong Kong.We face them in the semi-finals.Earlier in the preliminary round, China and Hong Kong ranked first, while UNAIR ranked 4. We lost in segments 1 and 2, but we came back in segment 3, ” explained Stefanus.
Stefanus hoped that through this victory, there will be more students joining Bridge club.He also hoped that the achievement can inspire other students to make more achievements for UNAIR, both in the national and international arena.(*)
