UNAIR Professors Discuss Women’s Role in Millenial Era

UNAIR NEWS– Two female professors from different field of science at 51¶¯Âþ held a women-themed discussion at the Professors™ Innovation Exposition on Tuesday, April 24 to commemorate Kartini™s Day in April 2018. The role of women became the main discussion.

The two professors were Prof.Dr.Anis Eliyana, SE., M.Si., from Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and Prof.Dr.Emy Susanti, Dra., MA., from Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP).It was moderated by Nisful Laila, SE,Ìý.

Deputy of UNAIR Information and Public Relations Center (PIH)Dr. Imron Mawardi, SP., M.Si., in his speech explained that now the role of women in various realms of life is so obvious.Most recently, he said, based on the announcement of SNMPTN 2018 results, 83.35 percent received at UNAIR were women.

“Today women are amazing.If we can see again, when graduation, the best graduates are also dominated by women, “he said.

The theme selection, in addition to the momentum of Kartini™s Day, the rapid pace of social development made an impact to the theme of femininity, especially related to gender equality.

Therefore, the topic of women is always interesting and important.Particularly when it is associated with social and economic themes.The discussion at Amerta Hall, 4th Floor, UNAIR Management Building, went lively.

In the discussion, Prof.Anis discussed issues related to the economic fields, especially women entrepreneurs in the millenial era.According to her, the emergence of the issue of the coming era of industrial revolution 4.0 should not bring fear for women, it should be put to good use.

“As the development ofe-commerceas part of industrial revolution 4.0 in Indonesia is highest in the world,” she said.

On the other hand, Prof.Emy discussed Kartini’s point of view in elevating women.There were three points.First, fighting ignorance, by school, educated, and skilled.Second, fighting poverty by contributing socially and economically.Third, fighting against injustice to women, by opposing polygamy, forced marriage, and seclusion.

“Nowadays, the first two were achieved, women are educated and socially contribute.The third point has not yet achieved.And it continues to be fought for by UNAIR center of gender study, ” she explained.(*)
