UNAIR Student Innovation, EYELINER, for Efficient & Renewable Magnet Generator

UNAIR NEWS – In this era of globalization, the use of technology is everywhere.New technologies have also been found.Benefits provided make the number of needs also increase over time.

So is energy.The human need for energy is increasing.But in fact, the increasing need is inversely proportional to the availability of energy in Indonesia, even in the world.

From that problem, a group of undergraduate students in Physics Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) , Zulfa Zahiroh, Mutia Rifda Amalia Hoesain, and Nur Aidatuzzahro create new innovations, related to energy issues.

The innovation is in the form of making environmentally friendly magnetic power plant technology.This technology is called ”Eco Friendly Electrical Neodymium Source Generator or abbreviated as EYELINER.The innovative idea was further outlined in the proposal of Student Creativity Program Invention (PKM-KC) category.

Under the guidance ofIr.Soegianto Soelistiono, M.Si., Zulfa Zahiroh and friends™ proposal passed through the selection of Directorate of Higher Education and managed to get funding from Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) in PKM 2018.

“Actually this tool has the concept of exploitingmagneticfluxchange, with the aim of optimizing the magnetic field power while in the coil, so that continuous magnetic field changes will produce an electric current,” said Zulfa, representing her team as the team leader.

This team developed this tool because Indonesia is currently facing serious problems on energy security.Energy consumption from oil, gas and coal, in Indonesia has increased to 5.9% in 2016.

“So in the last 20 years, the level of consumption has doubled, while the fastest increase occurred in the last five years,” added Zulfa Zahiroh.

The analysis of calculation theory used in this study also revolves around mechanical energy, magnetic moment, magnetic field, and Maxwell equations.It is thought to produce large energy output through a magnet source which is rarely noticed before.

“The technology that we have here has several advantages as it is a renewable energyand does not require much operational costs and maintenance.That’s because it uses a constantly rotating magnet energy source, so it can be operated in any weather conditions and anywhere because of itsportableand environmentally friendly form because it does not produce harmful gas emissions, “Zulfa added.

PKM-KC team research from FST UNAIR is expected to reduce dependence on fossil energy sources (gasoline and diesel), so that national energy security in the future is guaranteed and certainly safe for the environment.(*)
