UNAIR Students Develop Mobile Phone Charger Powered by Human Hands™ Heat

UNAIR NEWS – The world has entered an era of rapid technological development.ÌýMachines are used by humans.ÌýRanging from factory instruments to smart boxes are commonly referred to assmartphones.ÌýFor the generation of Y, the generation of technology literate, smartphonehas become a primary requirement.ÌýTherefore UNAIR students managed to innovate to makemobile phone chargerby just utilizing the heat of human hands.

From that fact,Physics undergraduate, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) 51¶¯Âþ, namely Raja Bugatti (team leader), Luqyana Salsabila, Lendy Pradhana, Syahrul Munir, and Vinda Aprilia, made a new innovation.

The innovation called ”Hand Charging, Charge the World”, Charge the Society“wasthen conveyed through the proposal ofCreativity Program in theof Exacta Research (PKM-PE).ÌýUnder the guidance of, Supadi, M.Si., this proposal qualified the Directorate of Higher Education selection and receives research fund from Kemenristekdikti™s PKM program in 2017.

“We are inspired from the heat that exists within the human body by utilizing the thermodynamics and Seeback principles. The human body hasionswhich carry electricity and generate heat, so it has the potential to be utilized as a charging source forsmartphones, “said Raja Bugatti, team leader.

Globally, the idea is inspired by data that the increaseinsmartphoneusersin the world, especially in Indonesia, according toEmarketerreaches more than 100 million users.ÌýHowever, these developments actually cause individual stress on the user as a result of the runs out power of thesmartphone.ÌýThen citing the research results of one of thesmartphonecompaniesin China, Indonesia is the most vulnerable to problem stress.

Actually, continued Raja Bugatti, portablechargerinnovationthat already exists, calledpower bank.ÌýBut the problem is the limited power that can be stored by the device.ÌýSo that when it runs out power, thepower bankcan no longer be used.

This Hand Charginginnovationdoes not have a power limit as the power obtained from the heat from the hands of the smartphone users.ÌýHand Chargingcan be used anytime and anywhere even in the area with no electricity,Hand Chargingis the main choice to charge thesmartphones.

°Õ³ó±ðÌýSeebackeffectin this innovationappliesif two different metals are connected to one end, then given different temperatures at the junction, there is a voltage difference on one end with the other end.ÌýThe phenomenon is then noticed by Peltier which later referred to as Peltier effect.

By calculating the average adult human skin that is 1.7m² and the average human energy output of 350,000 J per hour, and 1 J / h = 0.00028 W, then the power that can be released by the body every day of 5.7 mW / Cm2.ÌýWith that power, the heat generated by the human body is able to light up the 100 W brightly.Ìý(*)
