Understanding Messages from Photos of Food

UNAIR NEWS – Humans generally view food only as a relief from hunger.However, what happens if the food is able to give meaning and reflect social values?

Photography Society (APS) responded to the challenge.Through a photography exhibition titledTaste, APS presented to the public about the implied messages behind the food photos.Tastewas held 2-4 June, at Omah Jaman Now, Jl.Bali No.24 Surabaya.

In total, there are 13 works on display. Tasteexhibitionpresents social issues that throughconceptual food photography.

For example, the work of Ajrine Anindya entitled Varian Rasa.Through a portrait of a glass of tea that glimpsed the illusion of bits of fruit, flowers, and spices flying, suggesting that in the seemingly ordinary tea, it is rich in taste.

“A glass of tea in different places will look the same.We will not know the taste of tea before drinking it.Like human beings, before getting to know each other, everyone will look the same.We will not know the feelings, “Ajrine wrote in the photo caption.

Head of Exhibition, Pradipa Rizky Pratama mentioned that this photography exhibition indeed reflects the social issue and values.However, he gave freedom to visitors to intrepret photos displayed according to their own perceptions.

Meanwhile, in Tasteexhibition, there was not only photo exhibitions, but it also collaborates with the community of Sedekah Together (Seger).

“The collaboration is in the form of social service (baksos) inviting children from Arief Rahman Hakim orphanage.The Seger community organizes social events, while APS helps providing space and give aid to the orphans, “said student of Literature Indonesia class 2015.

Through the concept of sale supports, this social service also invited elderly and provided a place to sell their goods.The enthusiasm of visitors made four elderlies merchandise sold out.The event was also enlivened with music performed by Wolfscoustic on the second day.(*)
