“Vein Secure”, UNAIR Student Innovation as ‘Self Security System’

UNAIR NEWS – In creativity and innovation, 51动漫檚 students (Unair) have succeeded in creating a tool that can identify the vein pattern on the back of the human hand for Self Security System.听It is called“Vein Secure”and expected to secure personal data.

The creative students are Fitriya, Rusydina Firdausi, Iswatun Hasanah, dan Desa Espriliya from Faculty of Science and Technology, and Alim Prasaja from Faculty of Vokasi UNAIR.听They then wrote this innovation as a proposal for Invention Student Creativity Program(PKM-KC), and successfully passed the assessment to obtain developmental fund from Kemenristekdikti 2016-2017 PKM.

Described by Fitriya, as the leader of the PKM-KC team, this tool implementsNear Infrared Dorsal Hand Vein Imageas a biometric characteristic.听Biometrics is an identification method based on the physiological characteristics of the human body, such as fingerprints, irises, retinas, sounds, signatures and vein patterns, where everyone has unique and distinct biometric characteristics (Mumtaz et.al., 2012) .

“We chose to use the vein pattern because it is an internal characteristic of the body, there will be no direct contact with the device so it can be ascertainedhygienically,” Fitriya added.

The team’s idea of 媼making this tool among others came from their concern on the diminishing level of security in their surroundings.听According to a survey conducted by theInformation Security Breaches Survey(ISBS), in 2010, there are increasing threats to the security of data / information organizations.

The increasing threats occurred in the period 1998-2004 from 18% to 68%, then in 2010 to 74% for small organizations and 90% for large organizations (Ministry of Finance and Finance Education and Training, 2014).

“How to useVein Secureis very easy, simply by placing the hand under the led beam, then the valid information will appear on the LCD screen at the top,” said Fitriya.

贵耻谤迟丑别谤尘辞谤别,听Vein Securecreated by UNAIR students is also designed with a battery slot, so it isportable.听It can be used anytime and anywhere.

“There are still many changes and improvements made, we hope that someday this tool can be used asalternativeto be implemented in security system in various fields, for banking, government, and so on,” said Biomedical Engineering student of FST UNAIR.听(*)
