The Warm Teacher Passes Away

UNAIR NEWS “ Great sorrow was seen in the memorial service of Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Faculty of Medicine UNAIR Prof.R.Prajitno Prabowo, dr., Sp.OG (K).The last moment to pay respect for the late Prof Prajit took place solemnly in the Hall of FK UNAIR on Monday, September 18.

Hundreds of mourners crowded the hall.It was so crowded that some of the mourners had to wait outside and others watched from the balcony.Attended in the event was Rector of UNAIR Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Nasih, MT., SE., Ak, CMA accompanied by Vice Rector I UNAIR Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Ph.D., Sp. PD, KGH,FINASIM and Head of Information and Public Relations Center UNAIR Suko Widodo prayed each other for the passing of the professor.

Prof Prajitno died at the age of 81 on Sunday, September 17, in ICU GBPT RSUD Dr.Soetomo Surabaya at 14.35 WIB.After the memorial service, the burial was done in TPU Keputih, Surabaya.

Not only the family, the departure of Prof Prajitno also left deep sorrow for the physician’s colleagues, especially those who share the science of Obstetrics and Gynecology.Some of them are Prof.DR.dr.Budi Santoso SPOG (K) and dr.Hari Nugroho, SpOG.

For Prof Budi, the figure of Prof Prajitno had a great role in supporting the success of his education so far.

“He was my teacher from my bachelor™s degree to my specialist.He was also my promoter when I took my doctoral education.Thanks to his knowledge and patience, I finally achieved a doctorate, ” he said.

During his life, Prof Prajitno is known as amulti talented professor.In addition to being an obstetrician who is an expert in the field of fertility, Prof Prajitno also mastered a number of other medical fields.

“He has studied anesthesia in America.And after he finished school there, he returned as an obstetrician, ” he said.

With more capabilities, Prof Prajitno did not only focus on fertility, he was also mastered several sub-specialists, such as anesthesia, and oncology or cancer.

“Although he was an obstetrician, but not infrequently colleagues of physicians from the field of Oncology asked for advice from him,” he explained.

Prof Prajitno also became one of the pioneers of the establishment of obgyn specialist school in Surabaya.In fact, when not many doctors developed laparoscopic techniques in Surabaya, he had already pioneered laparoscopic techniques to be known abroad.

Among sweet memories with the teacher, Prof Budi had a moment so imprinted in his mind.The attention given by Prof Prajitno is not limited to the teacher student relationship, beyond that he cared.

“When I was ill, Prof Prajitno was so concerned about my health.He contacted his colleagues to treat me.The operation was called off because the treatment was successful, “he said.

Humanist side of Prof Prajitno also felt by dr.Hari Nugroho, SpOG.As a junior colleague, Hari remembered Prof Prajitno as a teacher and guiding figure full of warmth, especially to his students.

“His relationship with the young doctors was so close.Prof Prajitno inspired us so much.His figure will not be replaced, “he said with teary eyes.

“Although a few months before Prof Prajitno’s physical condition gradually weakened, he still wanted to teach,” he recalled.

Prof.Prajitno is a simple person.As a teacher, he applied methods that were not monotonous.“He often invited students to discuss and share, even chat for small things. He never considered learning should be done by sitting and focused.Students can ask anything, even making argument was okay, “he said.

With its capabilities, Prof Prajitno becomes role model for most lecturers especially those who are involved in obgyn field.

“I remember his habit.Almost every week he invited his students to study together at home.Besides teaching, he also invited students to eat together.We talked a lot while we learned.That’s how he built intimacy.We were always looking forward to the moment of togetherness with him, “he recalled.(*)
