4 UNAIR Students Win Special Awards in Japan for Burn Treatment Innovation

UNAIR NEWS“ 51¶¯Âþ students made another international achievement.Four students won a special award at 2018 Japan Design and Invention Expo (JDIE) competition.

JDIE is an annual activity held by World Invention Intellectual Property Association (WIIPA).The event provided an opportunity to introduce the latest innovations from various countries.JDIE 2018 took place on August 4-5 at Tokyo Big Sight and Tokyo Ariake Bay Hotel, Japan.

Cucu Eka Pertiwi, one of the representatives from UNAIR, said that the innovation competition did not only focus on one area.But from various fields, such as health, technology, and other fields.Innovations contested start in the form of products to applications.“We from UNAIR introduced our products in the health sector,” explained Cucu.

The 2016 S1 Nursing program student said that the product presented by UNAIR was Acalypha CnH functional stick for burn injury treatment.The product is a burn medicine that is packaged in one stick.The stick has two ends for different treatments. The first end is a sprayer for burns and the other end is a gel to eliminate burn scars.

“So our product is a set of practical burn treatments because it is packaged in the form of sticks with continuous function,” she explained.

Cucu also said that she and her team developed the product because she thought that burn wounds could happen in everyday life.The scars caused by burns can often cause a lack of confidence.

In the development, Cucu and the team and assisted by their lecturer Setho Hadisuyatmana, S.Kep.Ns., M.NS (CommHlth & PC) through various researches found that Asian copperleaf plants have excellent properties for healing burns.In addition, she added, the leaves are very easy to find and easy to grow anywhere.Therefore, they decided to examine the leaf and use it as a basic material for their innovation.

“We never thought would win aspecial award.As we were attending our booth, a woman suddenly approached the booth.We did not realize if that woman was the President of WIIPA and we invited her to visit our booth.Soon, the woman returned and said she would give aspecial award, ” said the FKp student.

The student from Surabaya admitted that she was happy and grateful to be able to get a gold medal.She also hoped that they could continue to develop innovation with existing resources and problems.

In addition to Cucu Eka Pertiwi, there were several other students who were also 2016 Nursing students, Dwi Utari Wahyuning Putri, Arinda Naimatuz Zahriya, and Reffy Shania Novianti.(*)
