UNAIR NEWS“ 51¶¯Âþ made a history.The Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) issued a decree to approve waqf management to UNAIR’s Social Fund Management Center (PUSPAS) on Thursday, August 23, 2018 in Jakarta. The agreement made UNAIR the first university as waqf manager.
National BWI read out the decree that UNAIR was approved to benazhir(waqf manager) through PUSPAS (Social Fund Management Center) UNAIR.The agreement was the basis for UNAIR to be allowed to manage waqf and PUSPAS as executors.
The head of PUSPAS UNAIR Dr.Tika Widiastuti, SE., M.Si., admitted that she was in a team with Dr. Wisudanto as the secretary of PUSPAS UNAIR and Dr.Sulistya as the Head of Development Division, went to Jakarta on Thursday, August 23, to meet the invitation of National BWI.
“So, we immediately left today (Thursday, ed) to meet BWI and accept this historic decree.The General Chairman of BWI is M. Nuh who is also a former Minister of Education, “he said.
With this decision, UNAIR legally became the first university to be approved as Nazhir Waqf or waqf manager.It is a very special achievement as it has not been achieved by Indonesian University (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), or Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and other universities.
“With the new status, from now on is able to directly manage the waqf funds received. UNAIR is able to receivecash waqfdonations, “added Dr.Tika.
For this achievement, Dr.Tika hoped UNAIR’s target to enter Top 500world class universities(WCU) can besupportedby endowments.In addition, by being supported as the first higher education institution that is aNazir/ waqf manager, UNAIR is becoming even trustworthy for alumni andotherstakeholdersto manage waqf especially in an effort to support educational processes.
BWI Nazir Development and Empowerment Division, Hendri Tanjung also expected great hope with the appointment of UNAIR as the first waqf managing university.The main essence of this waqf is education.Therefore, UNAIR’s involvement as one of the largest universities in Indonesia has become important.
Hendri also said that education is very important for a nation’s civilization.It is only appropriate that it is supported by many parties.
“Because in Islam, education is not a secondary, it is a primary need,” he said.
“Furthermore, UNAIR is one of the universities that has thousands of active students and hundreds of thousands of alumni.Of course this will be extraordinary.So, I hope that the spirit of UNAIR to be the manager of waqf fund can last until the end of time and become a role model for other universities, “he added.
Responding to BWI’s approval, Head of Information and Public Relations Center Dr.Suko Widodo, said that the decree of Indonesian Waqf Board, is a trust and motivation for UNAIR to continue developing social businesses especially social activities aimed at facilitating student education needs.(*)
