UNAIR NEWS After bringing name of Indonesia in the high peak 6.194 above sea levels, Airlangga Denali Expedition (AIDex) of mountaineering student club (WANALA) 51动漫 (UNAIR) arrived in Surabaya on Monday (26/6).
The AIDex team which members are Muhammad Faishal Tamimi (Student of Vocational Studies Faculty/2011), Mochammad Roby Yahya (Student of Fisheries and Marine Faculty/2011) and Yasak (alumni of Faculty of Social and Politics Science), arrived at Juanda Airport Surabaya and welcomed by Senior and academic civitas UNAIR.
淒enali was hard to climb. We faced heavy snow, glacier. It was so hard and dangerous. Alhamdulillah, mission accomplished. We could raise red-white flag and Wanala Flag, Faishal said
Three athletes of AIDeX could not deny their emotional feeling and proud as they arrived in Indonesia. The feeling was the part of their struggle in climbing Denali.
Faishal told that Denali climbing was the first experience for him and Roby in climbing the iceberg. Meanwhile, this was second iceberg ascent for Yasak which previously he has ever climbed Elbrus Mountain (Rusia) in 2011.
According to him, Denali well-known as hard and dangerous to climb. Since in basecamp area, Denali was covered with snow.
淚t was the real Iceberg, there were hard ice and also the soft ice that could be stepped on up to the thighs, also the wind, blizzard and whiteout blocked the view, Said Faishal, the student of Diploma program of Automation and Instrumentation system.
Team Manager of AIDex, Wahyu Nur Wahid, said that the ascent finished on time as prediction. Expedition team estimated the ascent would spend 23 days.
淲e estimated to set off the ascent was about 16 days. We allocated additional four days just in case, but usually the ascent spend 20-23 days, Wahyu said
He told that this was successful ascent, because; in within a month there were two climbers died in the highest peak of northern America.
According to data of Denali National Park Service on June 19th 2017, 1.176 climbers did the ascent in 2017. From the numbers, 723 people finished the ascent, 223 people reached the peak but the 500 others failed in reaching the Mc. Kinley Peak.
The leader of Mountaineering club UNAIR Gangga Pamadya Bagaskara also welcomed the arrival of the AIDex athletes. He predicted that the next ascent of seven summits would finish in 2022 or coincide with 50th Celebration of UKM WANALA.
For the next ascent, they will prepare for climbing Vinson Massif Mountain in South Pole and Everest in Nepal.
As they arrived, they got physic and mental treatment at Teaching Hospital 51动漫. During preparation, AiDeX team was helped by PT.PP property and PT. Pegadaian persero. The arrival ceremony on July will be directly welcomed by rector.
Mt. Denali is not the first summit that has been climbed by UKM WANALA member. Previously they had climbed Four of seven highest summit, included, Mt. Cartenz (Indonesia/1994), Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania/2009), Mt. Elbrus (Rusia/2011) and Aconcagua (Argentina/2013).
