UNAIR NEWS –After a month of fasting in the holy month, Ramadhan, Muslims celebrate the Eid-al-Fitr on 25-26 June.The lecturer of Philosophy of Science, Listiyono Santoso, M.Hum., revealed the meaning behind the name of Eid al-Fitr, called Lebaran by the Javanese community.
According to Listiyono, Eid is not just a marker for the end of fasting obligations in Ramadan but a condition where door of forgiveness is wide open from Allah.
The meaning of Idul Fitri cannot be separated by thebakdo kupat听辞谤听ngaku lepat(admit mistakes), not only to God but also to fellow human beings.In addition, Lebaran also meanslaku papat(four actions) that people do after Ramadan.
“First, themeaning ofLebaran isthe opening of forgiveness.Second, luberanwhich means spilled or abundant.This is a symbol of charity teaching for the poor.Paying zakat fitrah before Lebaran is also a manifestation of concern to fellow human beings, “said Listiyono.

In addition, the Javanese people also often call Lebaran with the termriyaya(feast day) which is interpreted as the day of victory.The word “raya” refers to the terms of victory of Muslims for a whole month defeating various desires and restraints.
