UNAIR NEWS –The creativity of five students entitled “B-Steam: Bivalve Steaming, Right Solution for Clam Fishermen” is ready to compete in 31st National Student Science Week (PIMNAS) UNY.Ula Zidni Alfian Ikromah and Maulida Agustina (Faculty of Fisheries and Marine), Akhmad Afifudin Al-Anshori (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine), also Hilmi Putra Pradana and Ningsih Putri Herman (Faculty of Science and Technology), are the five students who offer solution to the problems faced by Banjarkemuning clam fishermen, Sedati District, Sidoarjo Regency, with a modified Autoclave and Boiler (steam system).
In the presentation practice session and discussion on the team’s creativity on Tuesday, August 28, the team admitted that the innovation would be able to eliminate contamination of pollutants in the clams, because boiling water was not used twice, and with a closed boiling process, problems are dealt with.
Regarding the reason why the fishermen from Banjarkemuning Village were chosen, Ula Zidni Alfian Ikromah, the team leader in her presentation explained that the clam fisherman centers in the village are already known to have partnership but problems were still unresolved.
“With the proposed tool, it is expected to solve the existing problems,” she explained.
Furthermore, regarding the mechanism of the tools, the teams included in the PKM-T category also explained how the Autoclave and Boiler (steam system) modification tool work.The boiler, she explained, is used as a place for heating water to produce steam and channeled it to the autoclave which contained shells.
“This tool uses pressure and temperature as a boiling parameter,” she explained.
First, the autoclave part is opened by removing the nut.Then the basket in it pulled out and the clams inserted up to 75% of the basket volume.Basket is then inserted again, then closed and the nut is strengthened.
Then, he continued, the boiler is filled with water up to three quarters of the pipe height.The water quantity is known by opening the two levers, then closing the lever again.When the water and clams have been inserted, then the stove under the boiler is turned on, after making sure the channel from the boiler to the autoclave is closed so that the hot steam does not come out.Then the pressure on the boiler in increased.
“The heat makes the water evaporate, so the pressure in the boiler also increases,” she said.
