BAPOMI East Java to Hold POMDA as Athlete Selection for POMNAS XV Makassar

UNAIR NEWS “ Indonesia Students Athletics Training Board (BAPOMI) of East Java has confirmed their participation in the multi-event biennial championship, National Students Athletics Week (Pomnas) XV in Makassar, this October 2017. For that reason, as preparation as well as athlete selection, BAPOMI East Java is going to hold a Regional Students Athletics Week (Pomda) in East Java level which is scheduled to be conducted in the upcoming April “ May.

The above was results from BAPOMI East Java committee meeting last week at UNAIR which was led by the General Director himself, Prof. Djoko Santoso, dr., Sp.PD-KGH., PhD., FINASIM., accompanied by the Operations Director Dr. M. Hadi Subhan, SH., MH., CN., and the Secretary of BAPOMI East Java Dr. Edy Mintarto, M.Kes. The meeting was also attended by most of the member representatives. In addition, another result is the establishment of BAPOMI subscription in the amount of Rp 1,000/class of students whether it is students from Private or Public Universities.

In the forum, it was also revealed that at POMNAS 2017 there will be 142 tournaments from 14 sports. The sports are athletics, swimming, pencak silat, karate, chess, kenpo, tarung derajat, tennis, sepak takraw, volleyball, basketball, futsal, badminton, and petanque.

The last sport, petanque, has received a status upgrade. At POMNAS XIV 2015 in Aceh, the sport was still an exhibition contest. Later in Makassar it will be officially contested. Unfortunately, the sport which is a gold mine of medals for East Java, Archery, is not recommended by BAPOMI South Sulawesi as the host to be contested.

Among the sports, the ones which contest the most tournaments are athletics (male and female, each for 20 tournaments); swimming, each for 14 tournaments; pencak silat, 11 tournaments for male and 8 for female; and tarung derajat which competes 10 tournaments for male and 4 tournaments for female.

As preparation as well as athlete selection for POMNAS XV in Makassar, BAPOMI East Java is going to hold a POMDA which is scheduled to be conducted in April until May. Therefore, for the upcoming POMDA several campuses (universities) have been appointed hosts to conduct competitions/contests for each sport.

In this case, UNAIR is chosen to conduct volleyball matches. UNESA campus which owns a number of sport facilities is the host for four sports namely athletics, kenpo, petanque, and badminton. University of Brawijaya for karate, and UPN is the host for swimming and tarung derajat.

The next is tennis which will be held of Malang (UM), futsal at ITS, pencak silat at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), chess at University of Jember (Unej), sepak takraw at University of PGRI Adi Buana (Unipa), and basketball matches at the of Surabaya (Ubaya).

news.unair recorded, at Pomnas XIV in Aceh, 14-21 November 2015 which was participated by 32 provinces, BAPOMI DKI Jakarta was still the general champion of Pomnas. Jakarta earned 68 gold medals, 37 silver, and 28 bronze. Meanwhile, East Java which soared to be a runner-up at Pomnas XIII in Yogyakarta, when in Aceh achieved 12 gold medals, 22 silver, and 30 bronze and was downgraded to the Fourth Place. In the Second Place was West Java, the Third Place was Central Java, and DI Yogyakarta in the Fifth Place. (*)
