UNAIR NEWS “A talk show on Anticipation of Radicalism and Terrorism Action in East Java was held warmly and lively.The event initiated by National Unity and Politics Board of East Java Province with academics of UNAIR, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, and the community was held at Warung Mbah Cokro on Wednesday evening, October 18.
Dr.Suko Widodo who hosted the event opened with a statement that the nation’s recent condition is heating up with various issues, terrorism and radicalism for example.The first speaker was Drs.Ec.Jonathan Judianto, MMT., the Head of Bakesbang East Java.In his presentation, Jonathan said that the big problems facing the nation are drug cases, terrorism, and radicalism.
Regarding radical issues, Jonathan especially explained that this radicalism is a view made by a group of people who want to make changes quickly even with violence.
“These people have disturbed mind and believe that their view is the most correct and the opposite is wrong,” he explained.
Prof.Akh.Muzakki, M.Ag., Grad.Dip.SEA, M.Phil, Ph.D., as the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UIN Sunan Ampel in his presentation said that in terms of concept, people who have a deep belief can be deemed radical.However, the problem is their belief that there is no truth of others.
“The worse is when the people with different views will be fought.Not just the different ones, but who hamper their movement as well, “he said.
A political observers Hari Fitrianto presented a data on a survey from the Wahid Institute that shows seven percent of Muslims are radicalized and ready to fight against other opposing believers.
“It’s a pretty big number.Although this research only studied the potential and radicalism seed, “he explained.
Meanwhile, Linggar Rama Dian Putra, MA., from the Department of Anthropology UNAIR said, the potential birth of radicalism is driven by the way of life of the community.The attitude of ignorance and not wanting to know each other is suspected to be one of the causes of the birth of radical seeds.
“If the culture does not work well then the emergence of radicalism will be easier.Communication and addressing others is a solution.Because people in this cultural condition have the potential to be infiltrated by terrorism, “said Linggar.(*)
