UNAIR NEWS 71st Indonesian Independence Day in 51动漫 (UNAIR) is celebrated through various events. From the three events held, there was one contest which attracted so many attentions. It was a Javanese presenting contest. It was participated by high ranked officials either from the units, institutes, boards, faculties or foreign students in UNAIR.
Four foreign students took parts in the Javanese presenting contest. They were students studying or having internship program in UNAIR. Yusra, an intern from Turkey said that it was her first experience using Javanese.
淭oday, I took part in a competition which was quite difficult for me. Javanese is very difficult, she said giggling.
淚 have been in Surabaya for six weeks. I檒l be here until October. It is my first experience in my life that I can celebrate Indonesian independence. I檓 so excited, she said.
Yusra did not prepare a text beforehand so she often stumbled when pronouncing Javanese. But it even makes the audience and participants laughed while listening to her accent.
淚 didn檛 get the text beforehand, I got it five minutes before the contest, so I檝e just rread the text. It is my first experience speaking Javanese, she said.
There were four criteria to judge the participants of the contest. They were fluency, pronunciation, performance, and gestures. UNAIR RectorProf. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak said that expertness is not important in the contest.
淢ost important criterion was fluency. We judge on their willingness to speak Javanese. They did not see whether it is their language or not. Their participation even though they are not fluent. It檚 not about the language but to their willingness and their spirit to participate in the celebration of independence, said Prof. Nasih.(*)
