“Cyberbullying” Recognize, Beware, and Handle

UNAIR NEWS –In the current era of openness, bullying does not only happen in a face to face communication, cyberspace is also a new medium for bullying.To that end, the Faculty of Psychology, through the Center of Applied Educational Psychology (PTPP) held a seminar “Stop Cyberbullying” in the Hall of Faculty of Psychology on Sunday, December 9.

The seminar, which was also initiated by PTPP檚 Bullying Crisis Center, Faculty of Psychology UNAIR, had “Know Your Signs, Prevent the Hazards, Handle Together”.The speaker in the event was Dr. M.G. Bagus Ani Putra S. Psi., Psych.Before his presentation on cyberbullying, the lecturer who is familiarly called Bagus first played a video about cyberbullying victim, then he confirmed that cyberbullying is a form of aggression done repeatedly.

“This is what I need to emphasize that cyberbullying is done repeatedly, happening once cannot be said as cyberbullying,” he said.

Furthermore, the lecturer of Social Communication Psychology presented various dangers and forms of cyberbullying.Cyberbullying can bring to murder or suicide.Cyberbullying may form in bad and cruel messages, revelation of secrets, and threats.After highlighting the dangers and forms of cyberbullying, Bagus also asserted that in the case of cyberbullying, everyone can be involved.

“In this case, we are all involved.Whether as a perpetrator, a victim, or just an observer, “he added.

Regarding the involvement of everyone in cyberbullying, Bagus explained that the psychology of perpetrator, the victim, and the observer are not the same.For the perpetrator, the satisfaction and dissatisfaction from the action are the goal.As for the victims, depression and aggression become the culmination of psychic symptoms.

“For the audience, divided into two, those who care and those who do not.For those who care, empathy, prevention, and supports must be given to them, “he explained.

The seminar held as a form of concern by PTPP檚 Crisis Center Faculty of Psychology UNAIR, was attended by various elements from students, teachers, to observers of education from various agencies.(*)
