UNAIR NEWS The Postgraduate School (SPS) welcomed the Deputy Speaker of the People檚 Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Dr. Lestari Moedijat, S.S., M.M. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. The agenda for the MPR RI site visit to East Java was filled with a public lecture entitled 淟eaders Talk: Post-Pandemic National Competitiveness.
In her speech, Dr. Lestari said that Indonesia檚 competitiveness is still mediocre. The statement refers to the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2021, where Indonesia ranked 37th out of 64 countries. In fact, Indonesia has an extensive foundation and resources that should be utilized for development and global competitiveness.
In this regard, Dr. Lestari said six important pillars need to be improved in the next 24 years to achieve the Developed Indonesia 2045 target. These pillars include understanding the business environment, reaching out to talents, strengthening education, supporting talent development, and improving vocational and technical skills.
淎mong these various challenges, I want to highlight one model or offer a solution, that is Theory U, said the woman born in Surabaya.
The theory proposed by Otto Scharmer is a change management method Dr. Lestari believes that Indonesia can adopt. The first step is co-initiating by building understanding through listening to the surrounding. The second is co-sensing which emphasizes observation in potential places with an open mind.
淭he next is presencing by connecting with sources of inspiration and will. Then, it is followed by co-creating, which emphasizes exploration and innovation for the future. The last one is co-evolving by forming a new ecosystem that facilitates innovation and renewal, explained Dr. Lestari.
Meanwhile, in the opening speech session, the Director of SPS UNAIR, Prof. Badri Munir Sukoco, S.E., MBA., Ph.D., delivered three recommendations that can be considered to improve the nation檚 competitiveness. The first is related to strategic industries needed to transform the Indonesian economy both at the regional and national levels.
The second is the technology and knowledge-based innovation for economic transformation and industrial development strategies. 淭he last one is a healthy innovation ecosystem with the support of world-class universities and local governments as acceleration media, added Prof. Badri.
The event itself was held online via Zoom Meeting. In addition, the public lecture was also broadcast live by at least 21 radio networks in East Java. After giving the public lecture at SPS UNAIR, Dr. Lestari and her group went to Campus C UNAIR to have an audience with the Dean of the Faculty of Public Health (FKM). (*)
