– The Student Activity Unit (UKM) in the spiritual division become a forum and facilitator for students to develop their religious and social sensitivity.This unit gathers students in an association that contains various activities to develop spiritual values, either sharpen vertical relationships to God, or horizontal relationships with others.
With friends of faith who gather together, students are motivated to diligently follow the activities in the house of worship.Furthermore, social service activities are conducted routinely.Thus, members learn two things at once, studying problems in society to give solutions, and practicing to be in a committee.
It was stated by the Head of the Buddha Spiritual Unit (UKKB) Irene Sugiarto during interview, Friday, October 20.She said that in the UKM she leads, all activities are based on the spirit of mutual love and helping others.
He added that UKKB always coordinates with other spiritual UKM in UNAIR.There is a special line group to communicate.So, whenever they can, they can discuss ideas together.Because all this time, they always held regular activities at certain moments.
“The UKKB work programs that have been organized are the Welcome Party, Basic Leadership Training, Social Service in Free Medical Treatment, UKM Display, UKKB Anniversary, and UKKB Teaches,” said Irene explaining the detail of internal routine programs.
The purpose of Welcome Party is to introduce and unify the vision and missions of UKKB to Buddhist freshmen from various faculties.Thus, each member has the same vision and missions, establishing intimacy between new members (as participants) with old members (as a committee of activities) of UKKB as well as the alumni who happen to be still active in college, to improve unity and be an example for freshmen.
While basic leadership training is aimed to hone leadership and organizational skill to all members of UKKB.Thus, it is expected to be a superior regeneration in developing UKKB.
The Social Service is organized to foster a sense of brotherhood and caring among people regardless of tribe, religion, race, and groups (SARA), to share happiness with people around.Particularly, it is aimed to the poor, by providing health services, and practicing Dharma Buddhist teachings in social life, through dedication.
UKM Display is an annual activity to attract freshmen into UKKB.Also, to introduce UKKB to all freshmen, and provide information to Buddhist students such as time, places, and procedures of religious lectures.
UKKB always commemorates the anniversary.This moment can be used to maintain kalyanamitta and good relationships with senior and alumni who have been taking care and developing the UKKB from time to time.
“The UKKB Teaches is clearly aimed to share knowledge and skills around Buddhism and other general knowledge to children in Sunday school and to practice the ability to socialize and teach so it is expected to improve the softskill of UKKB students, ” explained Irene.(*)
