UNAIR NEWS –East Java contingent must remain at the fifth or Top Five of 34 provincial BAPOMI teams in Indonesia who participate in the National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) XV, in Makassar, South Sulawesi.
In the match on the last day, Friday, October 20, East Java successfully retained the Top Five position 12 gold, 26 silver, and 28 bronze medals.The competition was Central Java with 13 gold, 16 silver and 32 bronze medals.
“If only in the last five events, East Java athletes in the final won golds, East Java would have surpassed Central Java.Unfortunately the basketball teams only got silvers, as well as the women檚 indoor volleyball, “said Drs.Hany Natawidjana, adviser to the BAPOMI East Java Contingent.
The contingent of DKI Jakarta is still the strongest in POMNAS.DKI won 51 gold, 32 silver and 35 bronze medals.Followed in second place by West Java with 26 gold, 24 silver, and 31 bronze medals.The hosts of South Sulawesi made a surprise by finishing in third place with 26 gold, 12 silver and 21 bronze medals.
On the last day, East Java only added two gold medals, through the women檚 Randori class 50 Kempo sports on behalf of Lyoba Seila Perada Usen, as well as women檚 double sepak takraw.
“Thank God, we are very grateful for this result, as it is the first participation of Kempo East Java and we got 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.It is a new history, “said Cuk Prasetyo, Kempo East Java coach.
While in the women’s volleyball competition, East Java was defeated by DKI Jakarta and the men’s volleyball took bronze after defeating Banten.From Kempo, a silver medal was won from men檚 pair embu and three bronze medals from men檚 randori 50 and 55 as well as men檚 pair embu.
In the final of basketball competition, East Java teams was reinforced by several UNAIR students, were defeated by DKI Jakarta.While in the men檚 basketball, East Java repeated the achievement two years ago in Banda Aceh, winning a silver medal.In POMNAS XIV they lost to DKI, in 2017 they lost from BAPOMI Banten.East Java lost 79-63.
“South Sulawesi success was an achievement, because in POMNAS 2015 and then in Aceh, Sulsel was only able to collect 6 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals andfinishedat the 6th rank,” as written in the official website POMNAS 2017.
