UNAIR NEWS The Directorate of Career Development, Entrepreneurship Incubation, and Alumni Affairs () of 51动漫 () hosted a webinar titled “Leading with Purpose: Enhancing Leadership Skills and Self-Awareness for Students”. The event was held on Thursday, Feb 15, 2024, via Zoom Meeting and UNAIR DPKKA’s YouTube channel.

The webinar was jointly organized by the Airlangga Career and Internship Club (ACIC) and the (BCF). This collaborative webinar featured Lukman Hakim, SIKom, as the Program Development Officer of BCF, discussing the importance of leadership skills and self-awareness for students.

Lukman underlined the importance of leadership skills for everyone, not just job seekers. Referring to Linda A. Hill, Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School, he reiterated that leadership is a process of self-development.

“Leadership does not happen overnight, like building a temple. It is a lifelong learning process,” he explained.

He believed that becoming a leader is a personal journey, learned through experiences and challenges. Leadership skills are developed through facing challenges and stepping out of one’s comfort zone.

“There must be a challenge to push us out of our comfort zone. When individuals are confronted with situations that require intense thinking and problem-solving, that’s when they experience growth,” he added.

Lukman outlined that the foundation of leadership is self-awareness. Individuals with high awareness possess the capacity to make insightful decisions, especially in keenly perceiving issues. Accurately assessing motivations, strengths, and weaknesses are crucial.

淗ence, having a sufficiently elevated level of self-awareness is crucial for a leader before guiding others,” he remarked.

He noted that if someone is not prepared to lead others, leadership skills can still be utilized in self-leadership, working towards personal goals. In other words, leadership skills extend beyond being in a leadership position and are applicable to self-development.
