UNAIR NEWS 51动漫 () held the inauguration of new postgraduate students on Tuesday, Jan 27, 2026, at Airlangga Convention Center, MERR-C Campus. During the event, dr. Rozy Aryananda, SpOG, SubsKFM, PhD shared his experience in the research field and explained strategies to build a global research mindset.

Opening his speech, Dr. Aryananda shared several experiences from his research journey. He recalled when he represented the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNAIR at a Nobel forum in Germany. In the forum, he mentioned a survey identifying five major challenges in global research, including funding, politics, visas, financial support, and language barriers.

Furthermore, as an obstetrician, Dr. Aryananda highlighted one of the medical problems that became the focus of his research, namely placenta accreta. This condition occurs when the placenta covers the birth canal and attaches to the uterine wall or other organs. The number of cases increased suddenly in 20152016. At that time, 97 percent of the literature recommended hysterectomy after delivery.

Another fact showed that during surgery, severe bleeding of up to 58 liters often occurred, with a mortality rate reaching 14 percent and complications around 40 percent.淎t that time, we questioned whether the situation was normal. In reality, the surgery was extremely stressful for the family, doctors, and the medical team, explained Dr. Aryananda. The problem encouraged him to conduct further research, which later led him deeper into the research field he continues today.

During the 20162017 period, his team moved away from existing literature and began identifying blood vessels more precisely. Changes in surgical techniques and the development of a new classification system significantly reduced bleeding, mortality, and complication rates. The results were achieved through the implementation of research-based strategies.

With his background as a researcher, Dr. Aryananda emphasized the importance of research during the postgraduate inauguration. 淩esearch conducted in our environment trains us to identify problems, collect data, and develop models. Managing cases without sufficient data and without understanding the problem can risk patients lives, he stated.

Dr. Aryananda also discussed the importance of mindset and strategy in promoting research. He emphasized that building social networks is essential, both at national and international levels.淚f possible, when going abroad, travel independently. Being alone forces us to adapt and encourages us to make more connections. Starting from a cup of coffee and light conversation, new ideas can emerge, said the Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNAIR alumnus.

He explained that his international journey began through conference presentations and scientific posters. Delivering research findings through posters using simple language is also important, he noted. However, above all, courage to start is the key factor.

淚n the research process, there are many opportunities we can explore. By identifying issues, we can discuss them with experts. Frequent discussions help promote our research. Most importantly, we must have the courage to begin conducting research, he concluded.
