The event took place at the Faculty of Vocational Studies Hall, Dharmawangsa Campus Building C.

Key role of Occupational Health and Safety

According to Upik, implementing Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the tourism industry brings three main benefits: protecting tourists, preventing incidents that may endanger workers, and improving the overall quality of tourist destinations. This improvement also encompasses the Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) framework. 淭ourist destinations that uphold OHS principles can guarantee both the safety and comfort of their visitors, Upik said.

Applying OHS in practice

In line with that, Herlambang noted that many tourism destinations still face unaddressed safety issues. 淎 large number of accidents occur at tourist sites because OHS measures are not properly implemented, he explained. He identified five common risks in the tourism sector: physical injuries, extreme weather, water-related accidents at beaches or rivers, food poisoning, and health problems. 淭hat檚 exactly why OHS is essential, to ensure that accidents aren檛 dismissed as bad luck but are prevented through proper safety practices, he added.
