UNAIR NEWS 51动漫 (UNAIR) has recognized Kenzo Yuswan, an undergraduate law student, as the 2026 Outstanding Student (Mawapres) in the disability category. The honor reflects not only his academic achievements but also his commitment to advancing intellectual discourse and social advocacy.

Creative proposal: strengthening inclusive education

At the university-level Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres), Yuswan presented a proposal addressing a critical social issue: access to basic education for individuals with sensory disabilities, particularly those who are visually impaired.

Yuswan called for revisions to Government Regulation No. 13/2020 on reasonable accommodation for students with disabilities and Ministerial Regulation No. 48/2023, emphasizing the need for broader outreach. According to him, outreach efforts should go beyond explaining learning systems to include government programs that support inclusive education.

淚 propose clearer evaluation mechanisms for inclusive education. Local governments should reward schools that successfully implement inclusive practices, while also imposing administrative sanctions on those that fail to provide equal recognition despite receiving adequate support, Yuswan said.

International track record

Yuswan檚 achievement is supported by a strong record of academic and advocacy engagement. With a particular interest in human rights, he served as a speaker at an international conference in 2025, where he discussed the state檚 responsibility to ensure access to basic education for individuals with sensory disabilities.

He also completed a research internship at the Constitutional Court (MK) in 2025, focusing on accessibility for people with disabilities within judicial processes.

淢y experience at the Constitutional Court was very meaningful. I had the opportunity to engage directly with judges and legal experts, as well as observe court proceedings firsthand, he said.

His journey to the title involved a rigorous selection process, including submitting a portfolio of achievements, producing an English-language introduction video, and presenting his proposal before a panel of judges.

Regarding the English-language Q&A session, which required linking his ideas to the Asta Cita framework, Yuswan described it as a valuable learning experience. 淚t helped me develop my argumentation, critical thinking, and communication skills. Although it took time to connect my ideas to the framework, I was able to deliver them effectively, he said.

Future goals and contributions

For Yuswan, the award represents both an honor and a responsibility. He hopes it will serve as a platform for making a broader impact, particularly in advocating for the rights of people who are visually impaired.

淟egal frameworks already exist, but the challenge lies in implementation. I want to ensure that my contributions can help people with disabilities fully access their rights, especially in education, he concluded.
