Raising the Topic of Neo-developmentism and Ecosocial Injustice, UNAIR Faculty of Law Student Won Second Place in the National Essay Competition

The AIRLANGGA POLITICS (AIRPOL) 7.0 essay competition was held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, by the Political Science Student Association, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, 51¶¯Âþ. In addition to the essay competition, AIRPOL 7.0 is also an event for debate competitions, creative campaigns, and national talk shows.

The second winner in the national-level essay competition specifically for students throughout Indonesia is a 2019 batch student at the Faculty of Law, Airlangga University, Pradnya Wicaksana. Through an interview with FH News on Monday (14/11/2022), the student, who is familiarly called Pradnya, conveyed that the topic he was carrying out in his essay was the topic of Neo-Developmentism and Ecosocial Injustice. He said that Eve Warburton used the theory of neo-developmentalism (new developmentalism) to describe the approach of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, in realizing development agendas in Indonesia.

“President Joko Widodo views that the duty of a country is limited to realizing infrastructure development and economic growth, while other development agendas such as the promotion of human rights and environmental protection are often neglected,” said Pradnya.

Pradnya said development projects under President Joko Widodo’s leadership tended to lack environmental insight. According to him, development under the leadership of President Joko Widodo had violated community eco-social justice or social justice with an ecological perspective. Article 28H paragraph (1) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia guarantees the right to a good and healthy environment.

“Writing about this comes from my concern about the conditions in Wadas Village. There, the andesite mining plan for President Joko Widodo’s development project threatens the environmental sustainability of the local community,” he said.

In closing, Pradnya shared tips and tricks to write good essays. He emphasized that when someone writes, he must be able to answer why he created the writing.

“I often feel uneasy about something, so I need to put my worries into writing. Hopefully, my writing can spark readers about the environmental impacts that arise due to the neo-developmentist paradigm,” he concluded.
