UNAIR NEWS Students from the Faculty of Vocational Studies (FV) 51动漫 (UNAIR) once again achieve international recognition. At the 2nd International Student Summit (2nd ISS) 2026, organized by Sentosa Foundation in collaboration with INSAN (International Student Association), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), and World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS) on Saturday, Feb 14, 2026, they presented three research-based ideas addressing cross-disciplinary global solutions.
Mohammad Pradana Setyawan and Samuel, students of the Faculty of Vocational Studies had submitted projects in Law and Economics, Tourism and Culture, and Environment. Each project is designed based on the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
淎lhamdulillah, through this competition we bring medals home to UNAIR: one Gold Medal, two Silver Medals, one Bronze Medal, third place for Best Poster Presentation, and also Grand Champion, Samuel said.

Inspired by environmental waste concerns
In the Law and Economics category, Samuel explaineds that their project titled 淧IL: Economic Incentive-Based Environmental Policy Instrument for Sustainable Hospital Laundry Management stems from concerns about environmental impacts caused by hospital and laundry activities.
淭hrough an economic and legal policy instrument approach, PIL offers innovative medical detergent solutions. The benefits include promoting energy efficiency, reducing waste, and implementing an incentive-based compliance model, Samuel said.
Meanwhile, in Tourism and Culture, the team presentsed 淪MART MARINE TOUR: An English-Based Interactive Media for Surabaya Coastal Tourism to Minimize Poverty. Setyawan explains that the idea arises from the declining economic conditions of Surabaya檚 coastal communities after the pandemic. Limited digital promotion and low technological literacy prevent coastal tourism potential from being optimally recognized.
淭hrough interactive digital promotional media and English-based storytelling, this innovation aims to increase tourism appeal while encouraging local economic growth. This aligns with SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth, Setyawan said.
Offering impactful innovation
Setyawan also explained that in the field of Environment, they developed 淓COMPACT: A Community-Based Sustainable Empowerment Application and Social Enterprise Initiative to Increase Public Awareness in Realizing Zero Emissions in the Era of Society 5.0.
淭his environmental idea was introduced in response to increasing waste and unsustainable production patterns. ECOMPACT offers a community empowerment and technology-based solution to raise public awareness in achieving zero emissions, Setyawan emphasized.
In closing, Setyawan explained that their biggest challenge was limited time, which required them to present their ideas concisely yet comprehensively. Through this competition, they proved that vocational students are capable of producing innovations that are not only practical but also incorporate policy dimensions and systemic impact.
淚nternational competitions are not merely about winning, but about having the courage to bring ideas to a global forum. Impactful innovation is always born from concern for real problems around us, along with the commitment to transform them into research-based and creative solutions, Samuel concluded.
