UNAIR NEWS Transforming final academic work, such as theses and dissertations, into reputable international journal articles remains a significant challenge for many postgraduate students. In response, the Postgraduate School of 51动漫 (UNAIR) held an intensive workshop titled Transforming Theses and Dissertations into Reputable Journal Articles at RKI 1, Postgraduate School Building, Dharmawangsa-B Campus, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

The event featured Prof. Ferry Efendi Skep Ns MSc PhD, an expert and Head of the Institute for Innovation, Journal Development, Publishing, and Intellectual Property Rights (LPJPHKI) at UNAIR. He is recognized among the top 2 percent of the world檚 most influential scientists.

Early publication strategy

In his presentation, Prof. Efendi emphasized the importance of adopting a publication-oriented mindset from the early semesters, rather than waiting until the end of the study period. He shared his experience during his doctoral studies in Taiwan, where he successfully transformed coursework assignments into top-tier journal articles.

淭he best practice is to start thinking about publication from the very first semester. One of my manuscripts even originated from a course assignment in the first semester, which later became a policy review in an international journal, Prof. Efendi said before an audience of master檚 and doctoral students.

Research with global impact

The alumnus of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) further explained that the quality of research is measured not only by publication output, but also by the extent of its real-world impact. He demonstrated how his studies have been cited by leading international organizations such as WHO, WTO, UNICEF, and the World Bank in shaping more inclusive global policies.

淲e may never fully know the magnitude of impact our research can achieve. What we can do is remain focused on the depth of our respective topics, he added.

Importance of adaptability and collaboration

Beyond technical writing skills, Prof. Efendi also encouraged students to be adaptive and agile in navigating the dynamic academic environment. He stressed that success in publishing in reputable journals is closely tied to the ability to build strong collaborative teams.

淲ithout a solid team, you will likely face burnout. The key to international publication is collaboration, he emphasized.

The workshop formally concluded with a symbolic token of appreciation presented to Prof. Efendi. Through this initiative, the UNAIR Graduate School aims to motivate students to pursue citation targets and international publications, while also enhancing the university檚 academic reputation on the global stage.
