UNAIR researcher selected for prestigious Tropical Medicine course in Japan

UNAIR NEWS “ Dr. Arif Nur Muhammad Ansori, a researcher at the Postgraduate School of (UNAIR), has been selected to join the Certificate in Tropical Medicine program at the School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Nagasaki University, Japan. The program admits only about ten participants globally, drawing candidates from countries such as Kenya, Japan, Denmark, and Indonesia.

The six-month, part-time online course is tailored for healthcare professionals and explores a comprehensive range of topics in Tropical Medicine. These include viral, bacterial, fungal, and protozoal infections, maternal and child health, nutrition, and public health emergencies. The program is accredited by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom and confers 50 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.

“I™m eager to enhance my understanding of tropical diseases and how they are managed in developing countries. This program also provides valuable insight into global public health strategies,” said Ansori.

To qualify for the program, applicants must hold a recognized medical background and demonstrate strong English proficiency. Admission is highly competitive due to the limited number of seats. Ansori noted that the most significant challenge during the selection process was ensuring his academic and professional credentials met the program™s rigorous standards. English comprehension was also a key factor in the evaluation.

“This program is open exclusively to medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, physician assistants, and researchers. As a result, the selection process is highly selective to ensure all participants are well-qualified,” he explained.

As a virologist, Ansori plans to apply the knowledge gained from the course to strengthen his research and support efforts to control infectious diseases in Indonesia. The program™s focus on evidence-based approaches also contributes to the development of sound health policies. Additionally, it offers opportunities to expand his international professional network, potentially leading to global collaborations in infectious disease surveillance.

“I see this program as a launching point to further broaden my expertise in tropical medicine and global health,” he said.
