UNAIR NEWS An undergraduate student from Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has earned international recognition. Vania Athalia Indarto Putri won 1st Best Presenter in the Sustainable and Livestock Practices category at The 5th International Conference on Veterinary Medicine and Health Science (ICVMHS) 2025, held virtually via Zoom on Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2025).
From thesis to conference
Putri expressed gratitude for the honor, noting the presence of senior researchers and academics from inside and outside Indonesia. She credited her success to the support of her team and the mentorship of Prof. Mirni Lamid, Dean of UNAIR檚 Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and her primary advisor. Prof. Lamid guided her research and thesis while also encouraging her to present at the international conference.
淭his achievement motivates me to keep developing academically and professionally, Putri said.

Research on KUB chickens
Her presentation, titled Potential of Phytase and Protease Enzymes on Tenderness and Cooking Loss in Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan (KUB) Chicken Thigh Meat, explored the impact of feed supplemented with phytase and protease enzymes on meat quality. The study measured tenderness using the Warner-Bratzler Shear Force test and tracked cooking loss percentage. Through a randomized design with varying enzyme dosages, the research identified levels that improved the physical quality of KUB chicken meat.
淭his research can provide a scientific basis for functional feed formulations tailored to superior local chicken breeds, she explained.

The findings highlight the potential to improve both quality and value in local animal-based food products. Feed innovation through enzyme use can increase nutrient efficiency, enhance product quality, and strengthen market competitiveness. Focusing on KUB chickens also supports the growth of local poultry commodities, offering economic benefits for small- and medium-scale farmers while enriching national poultry diversity.
淭hese results may serve as a reference for developing research-based functional feed for KUB chickens, Putri concluded.
