UNAIR NEWS– Many things can be done to fill the holidays including going to an agency or company to study there.Internship, for example.That is what Ahmad Fahmi Ramadlan and Mega Soekarno Sumarlan, Environmental Engineering students, Faculty of Science and Technology, have done.
“During holidays, there is nothing wrong with learning from different environments,” Fahmi said.
Fahmi and Mega were having internship program at Surabaya City Environmental Agency (DLH).A senior had worked there, both students chose the place because they wanted to know the performance of Surabaya government, especially in the field of Environment.Because, we know, a number of achievements related to the environment and city governance, were achieved by Surabaya City.
“The first day was not comfortable because I didn’t know.But, when you know, it turns out everyone is friendly and welcome, especially in our division.“It’s so good, I often get free lunch because there is a birthday here,” Fahmi said, then laughed.
During the three-week internship, from June 25 to July 14, Fahmi and Mega were placed in Environmental Management, Control and Pollution Sub-section, DLH Surabaya City.Both were shocked to find out working hours in Surabaya City Office is six days, starting Monday to Saturday.Although Saturday is calculated overtime, the spirit and discipline must always be upheld.
“There, yesterday we were divided into two.There was a survey of pump houses in Surabaya area.And, some are attending the RPPLH meeting.We are also assigned together, “Mega added.
In the assignment, both of them could go around, surveying all parks in Surabaya to identify the types of plants there.In the beginning of the survey, Fahmi and Mega were with DLH employees.Then, both were trusted to observe the park and identify by themselves.The sometimes have obstacles during surveys.
“Sometimes in the surveys, there are differences in the data.The data turned out to be invalid. And not all types of plants were found, we know their names.So, taking photos is our main reliable method, “he said.
Fahmi added that the internship that they did gave them new, and fun experience.They gained many benefits, from patience while looking for parks, hard work during park surveys throughout Surabaya, sincerity of every individual to improve the environment, to self-awareness on responsibility to the task.
