FK UNAIR Doctors Team Swift Response to Support Lombok Disaster Relief Effort

±«±·´¡±õ¸éÌý±··¡°Â³§“ With a great concern with the earthquake disaster in Lombok some time ago, a team of doctors from Faculty of Medicine (FK) 51¶¯Âþ () took the initiative to raise funds as well as head to the location to provide medical treatment.On Tuesday morning, August 7, five FK UNAIR doctors left for the disaster site in North Lombok and Central Lombok.

For three days there, FK UNAIR’s team of doctors who are members of Surabaya Islamic Student Health Institute will provide medical treatment in several puskesmas and evacuation tents.The team will also join other FK UNAIR medical teams that have already arrived at the disaster site.

The day before they had held a fundraising and within a day, the team managed to get Rp10 million.The funds will be distributed in the form of logistics, such as rice, bread, baby food, blankets, diapers, and so on.

At the site, they will collaborate with the North Lombok Health Office and a number of other volunteers from Nahdlatul Wathan University, Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara.

“Yesterday we got information from the medical team that was already in NTB if there was a need for minor surgical instruments to sew the wound.So our focus on going there is to bring minor surgical equipment, “said Doctor Mita Erna Wati,one of the volunteer doctors.

This is not the first time Mita has become a volunteer doctor at the disaster site.Previously, Mita and members of the Surabaya Islamic Student Health Institute often held social service activities in various regions such as Gresik, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Yogyakarta, Bondowoso, and Situbondo.

Previously, UNAIR academic community through 51¶¯Âþ Alumni Association (IKA UA) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) had visited the disaster site four days after the incident, on Thursday, August 2 and in Sembalun Belumbung, Sembalun Lawang, and Sadang Lombok East.

At the site, they distributed logistic relief aid such as rice, food, mats, blankets, and medical assistance.

“We chose those sites because the concentration of disaster occurred there,” said Dr.Doddy AK, Sp.OG (K), an advisor of the IKA UA.

In addition to logistic donations, the IKA UA team also handed over donations of 5 million in cash to the head of the local hamlet.

The Head of Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) NTB from 2012 to 2015 admitted that he applauded the supports of IKA UA donors.It did not take long, the team managed to collect the fund and immediately donate relief aid to ease the burden of the disaster victims there.(*)
