FK UNAIR Hosts UNESCOs Bioethics Seminar

UNAIR NEWS Faculty of Medicine 51 has hosted Ethics Teachers Training Course of UNESCO(ETTC). ETTC was held for five days on April, 24-29, 2017 and it was attended by Bioethics experts of Education, Science and Culture Organization of UN.

Dozens of ETTC participants from around the world arrived in FK UNAIR on Tuesday, April 25. They were welcomed by Dean of FK UNAIR and other officials in FK Hall.

Some foreign participants were from Universitas Pondicherry, Universitas Taibah, Universitas Alasala, Universitas Manitoba, and King Abdullah Medical City in Holy. Meanwhile, the local participants were from Diponegoro, Rumah Sakit Fatmawati, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, and UNAIR.

ETTC is an annual training event held by UNESCO. Last year, it was held in Malaysia, this year, FK UNAIR was appointed to host it.

The event was held to improve lecturers competence in developing Bioethicsat faculty and university level. Through this training, the participants can also share their teaching, research and bioethics service experiences in their own countries, said Dean of FK Prof. Dr. Soetojo, dr., Sp.U.

After five days, the participants involved in a series of discussions and workshops in Bioethics. They simulate the teaching process with guidance from the instructors. There was also a global perspective discussion on Bioethics education.

Irakli Khodeli, Programme Specialist for Social and Human Sciences UNESCO, said that Bioethics curriculum was developed by UNESCO to introduce and improve Bioethics education in the world. UNESCO initiated the global Bioethics by establishing Bioethics program in 1993 through independent expert board such as International Bioethics Committee.

After five days, the participants will get certificates from UNESCO. The participants are expected to gain competence as excellent Bioethics.
