Half-Century Reflection of Indonesia and Singapore Diplomatic Relation

UNAIR NEWS Bilateral relation of Indonesia and Singapore extends for half-century. Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 51动漫 held a focused group discussion(FGD) on 淥pportunity and Challenges in 50 Years Reflection of Indonesia-Singapore on April 11-12.

The discussion was attended by the Permanent Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Singapore, H.E. I Gusti Ngurah Swajaya, and it was held in Soetandyo hall.

The discussion held for two days was attended by the stakeholders of higher education such as the representatives of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce in East Java, Bank Jatim, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Directorate of Customs and Excise, and UNAIR academicians.

淰arious stakeholders were present in the FGD and they are expected to trigger more comprehensive discussion on bilateral relation of Indonesian and Singapore since fifty years ago and for the next fifty years, said Dean of FISIP , Dr. Falih Suaedi, Drs., M.Si.

The FGD was held to face new challenges in both countries relations. It is useful to optimize possible collaboration in different fields with the government, education institution and business community.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relation on September 17, 1967, Ngurah Swajaya said that there are many aspects covered in economics and tourism. Singaporean business investments in Indonesia have reached US $ 9.2 billion or 55 percent higher in 2016 as in 2015 it was at US $ 5.8 billion.

Even it shows positive response economically, there is still problem in both countries relation. For example, in the policy of extradition, security partnership, maritime boundary determination, pollution caused by transboundary haze and also on the negative perception issue as the interaction is not intensive.

淚t can be the right moment to rise and prosper together to achieve political stability in ASEAN, so all of these will support the efforts on people prosperity. The most important isthinkbig,startsmall, andactfast, said Ngurah Swajaya.

In the press conference, Ngurah elaborated three main reasons of conducting the FGD and public lecture. First, to evaluate and disseminate lesson learned from both countries relation. Second, to improve the existing collaboration in economics and education. Third, to provide information on technology based economics with great potential in Indonesia and already developed in Singapore.

In the FGD, Ngurah Swajaya was accompanied by Education Atache Aisyah Endah Palupi, Third Secretary of Information and Socio-Culture Indonesian Embassy to Singapore Melati Sosrowidjoyo, andMinister CounselorJohn Tjahjanto Boestami.
