UNAIR NEWS– To commemorate World Diabetes Day, students of the Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences, Faculty of Public Health, 51动漫 held a health promotion event with the concept of Anti Diabetes Modern Children (AKAD) on Friday, November 17.
The event which was held in SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Surabaya involved 78 class X students. Lisna Trijayanti as head of the committee said that the event was held to commemorate World Diabetes Day.She deemed the event involving high school children is necessary, considering the risk of diabetes has reached all ranges of age.
“Beside having thirst for science, high school students as teenagers are also potential to be affected by diabetes,” he explained.
Lisna continued that diabetes risk factors are diverse, from an incorrect diet, inadequate physical activity, smoking or exposure to cigarette smoke directly.
“These are the factors that we often have and find around us,” he added.
For that reason, health promotion conducted by discussions, quizzes, watching movies, and various games made the event livelier.Regarding the activity, Lisna said that the target is teenagers, therefore, light and fun event is chosen as a promotional method.
“We deliberately organized light and fun event so the information about health can be conveyed and received easily by high school students ,” she explained.
Furthermore, Lisa also hoped that health promotion event that her team organized can be continued or done by other UNAIR students because according to Lisna health promotion for teenagers is very important.
“In addition to providing education to our own, the students can also apply a healthy lifestyle from information we provide,” she said.
Surya Alam Semesta, a participant who are also IPA 2 class X students admitted that he was pleased with the event.Even though he knew the causes and information about diabetes, for him, the arrival of UNAIR students gave him more insight on diabetes.
“A lot of lessons can be learned from this health promotion.Beside knowing more about diabetes, we as teenagers should understand it, ” he concluded.(*)
