UNAIR NEWS – Public speaking is an important part of communication.By having an excellent public speaking skill, one will be able to increase the confidence when they speak in front of many people or during cooperation discussion.
The ability to speak in front of people is important to possess.Therefore, this ability is needed to face the competition of the times.For that reason, the three year vocational program of Hospitality Management, Faculty of Vocational Studies, held a public speaking lecture and invited the founder of Public Speaking Academy Surabaya Fuad Zaky.
“Having public speaking ability will increase confidence.This is a capital for establishing cooperation, ” said Fuad in his lecture held in the Faculty of Vocational Studies Hall on Thursday, November 16.
Fuad said that it is important for a public speaker to respond early when starting to interact with the audience.For example, classroom interaction between lecturers and students in classes.
“In the class, the majority of students will not understand and listen to lecturers if there is no initial greeting.Greet first because it is important for the interaction with the audience, “said Fuad.
Fuad who is also an alumnus of Accounting Faculty of Economics and Business UNAIR explained that there are five elements in communication that must be studied in public speaking, communicators, communicants, messages, media, andfeedback.According to him, feedback is an important element that must always exist.
“Appropriate communication needs feedbacks,” he explained.
Head of D-3 Program of Hospitality Management Dian Yulie Reindrawati, S.Sos., MM., PhD.said that this guest lecture was held to gain insight in terms of public speaking.Dian added, the priority of the department is the development of student skills.
