Following Examples of Prophet Ibrahim

UNAIR NEWS The month of Zulhijjah in Islamic calendar is identical with Hajj and Sacrifice. Therefore, the sermon in routine Islamic gathering held in Dharmawangsa Hall of UNAIR Teaching Hospital on Thursday, August 24, was about great sacrifice celebrated by three big religions in the world.

The sermon was delivered by Ustaz Moch. Ali, S.S., MA.Min., who is also a lecturer of Indonesian literature Faculty of Humanities UNAIR. The routine Islamic gathering was attended by dozens of UNAIR academicians. Ali said that the teaching of sacrifice was inscribed in the previous books of religions.

淚brahim as the important existence for this teaching was not in Quran only, but alsi in the New and Old Testaments, explained Ali opening his sermon.

Even though the story is always told in the sermon of Eid al-Adha prayers. For him, the story from the Prophet Ibrahim was burnt to the moment of sacrificing his son was a great story with lots of lessons.

淲e all know how long Prophet Ibrahim had waited to have a son. It was very long. There is a lesson from this, that when we expect something from Allah, we must also have the patience, he said.

Ali also told the story of the prophet which should be followed until now, the process of discussion between Ibrahim and Ismail after getting the command to sacrifice his son. For Ali, Ismail is the symbol of human檚 love besides love of Allah SWT.

淭his is the drama for Prophet Ibrahim, that the only one to love was only Allah as the Creator of All things, he explained.

The story also teaches us to surrender to Allah SWT. It brings happiness in the end. Ali said that the other things loved but Allah will be the trial.

淪urrender for Allah SWT. That was what they did. It was Ibrahim檚 test about things that he loved, explained Ali in the end of his sermon.

About the sacrifice ritual in other religions, Ali said that Jews also did similar thing. The importance of Prophet Ibrahim in three religions are proof that he had a great role in humanity and taught great important lessons.
