UNAIR NEWS– The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) held a seminar and international conference from 25 to 26 August 2017. The 2017 International Seminar on Sensors, Instrumentation, Measurement and Metrology is entitled “Innovation for the Advancement and Competitivities of the Nation” .The event was supported by a number of campuses such as UI, ITB, ITS, UB, UGM, and Indonesian Physics Association (HFI).

There were 115 researchers, scientists, lecturers, and students, with 76 papers, either domestic or foreign, attended the event held in two venues, the hall of Wyndham Hotel Surabaya, and in the campus of 51动漫.Numerous participants were from China, Thailand, Brazil, and Japan. While those from Indonesia were from the famous state and private universities.

Asthe Keynote Speaker wasProf.Dr.Seiichu Ozawa (Kobe University, Japan). There were also some Invited Speakers, such as Prof.Dr.Sulaiman Wadi Harun (UM, Malaysia), Prof.Dr.Eng.Khairurrijal (ITB, Indonesia), Prof.Dr.Jakrapong Kaewkhao (NPRU, Thailand), Prof.Dr.Tosawat Seetawan (SNRU, Thailand), Dr.Setyawan P. Sakti (UB, Indonesia), Dr. Kuwat Triyana (UGM, Indonesia), Dr.Jong H. DoFST Lecturer, Andi Hamim Zaidan (far left) became the moderator for Invited Speakers.

In his speech, Chairman of the Committee Prof.Dr.Retna Apsari, M.Si stated, this activity is a place to share insights among scientists or researchers in the field of physics. Also, as a medium of communication and discussion between seminar and conference participants.“As we all know, this physics can be applied in every aspects of life.Physics and instrumentation are not exclusive to the community, “he said.

Vice Rector III for Research and Partnerships Prof.Amin Alamsjah in his speech also said similar points. He said this event could be a bridge between researchers, society, and industry. It means these three elements have a close relation.Science, added the Professor of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, should be able to contribute to the progress of a nation.

“In the era of globalization, a country that is in transition from developing countries to developed countries, must have excellent potential of science and technology, he said.

International seminar and conference like this will open discussion and cooperation between campus or institution. There is a mutually reinforcement and constructive exchange of ideas. So, it can contribute in finding a global solution.

On that occasion, Prof.Dr.Seiichu Ozawa delivered a presentation on the use of sensor technology for the optimization of agriculture. He gave examples of his research on soybean fields.

The man who has more than one hundred and fifty scientific publications explained that the use of sensors and cameras can make control of plantation crops or paddy even more optimal. In the final stage, strategies for acceleration and development of results can be implemented simultaneously.

“This method can be developed more at one point it will be able to formulate strategies for planting, breeding, watering, fertilizing and harvesting effectively and efficiently,” he explained.

Seiichu Ozawa also said that application of technology in agriculture is inevitable.Because, more and more in time, human needs for agricultural products from the agricultural sector are also increasing. Therefore, technology must be the main support of all agricultural methods.(*)
