UNAIR NEWS – Choosing to learn the thing that less people know is a challenge for Prof. Rachmah Ida. Her interest in learning media studies started since she used to read the books about media from many perspectives.
After completing her bachelor study in Communication Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Science 51动漫 in 1992, she attended Edith Cowan University Australia for earning her master degree five years later.
Rachmah Ida has written a lot of works on media studies and gender. Many friends doubted her for choosing to study in media studies because not many people know about the studies. She made up her mind for it and continued to study media studies, after completing her master degree she took her master program in Curtin university of Technology, Australia in the same field of studies.
There have been many ideas that she wrote in journals and published. Beyond all doubts, she has proven that she could get professorship in media studies. She is the first professor in media studies in Indonesia.

She has made a lot of achievements in research fields, scientific journals and books. In 2003, Rachma Ida obtained a research grant from AMAN (Asean Moslem Action Network). Through the grant, she conducted a research titled 淚mages of Contemporary Urban Muslim Women in Indonesian (Islamic-themed) Television Drama In Transitional Indonesia.
Her study portrays Muslim women in Indonesian soap opera. Her study was also written into a book entitled Imaging Muslim Women in Indonesian Ramadan Soap Opera.
淢edia is growing steadily. Media relies heavily on technology development, culture transformation and politics. In the future, media will be the transformative science and be continuously evolving Rachmah Ida said.
She added that theories about media will keep growing in line with the media format changes and the way audience responded to the information.
Her career as an expert of media makes her frequently asked to be the speakers in many conferences both national and international events. She is also a lecturer of Department of Communication Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, 51动漫 and a member of Indonesian Communication Bachelor Association. (*)
