UNAIR NEWS We often hear a term of law firm in legal world. In general, law firm is a business entity where they provide legal service and clients pay after using their service. However, this is not the case for Dr. R. Herlambang Perdana Wiratman, S.H., M.A.
A lecturer of Faculty of Law (FH) 51动漫 who is familiarly called by Herlambang is known as a defender for marginal people. Herlambang dedicates his time, energy, and knowledge for free to people who deserve help in protecting their human rights. Nevertheless, he never calls himself an activist.
This Chairman of Human Rights Study Center said, he has been doing such dedication since he was a . He in fact never charges a tariff for every legal advice he gives.
淚 help people who genuinely need support and assistance which are not merely material but legal knowledge. I only do what an academic is meant to do, he said.
淢y house in Sidoarjo is just like a lawyer office but the gratis one. Recently, in fact, people who come asking for legal advice are not only from East Java, but also from Central Java or even outside the Island, Herlambang added.
Among the cases he has handled are Lapindo case, the case of 13 labors in Gresik who were sued for 8 billion, and the case of land seizure. Herlambang once wrote an open letter for a Head of a level two region in East Java about land and rice field of the people which would be converted into a housing complex.
The numerous actions he has done do not free him of terror and intimidation he often receives. However, it does not stop Herlambang to defend Human Rights.
In 2001, at the age of 25, Herlambang earned the Ashoka award from Arlington, USA as a person who helps raise awareness and helps farmers community to negotiate with landlords without violence and in the corridor of law. He is declared as the youngest awardee of Ashoka award in the world.
