UNAIR NEWS Whether we admit it or not, there are even greater challenges in dental medicine. A research in dental medicine showed that the number of dentists has not been able to achieve a balance with the existing in population, especially in terms of even distribution.
What causes this condition? A professor of Faculty of Dental Medicine (FKG) UNAIR Prof. RM. Coen Pramono D, drg., SU., SpBM (K)., FICS said that this uneven distribution is caused by the reluctance of newly graduated dentists to serve in remote regions. As soon as they are graduated, they start a practice in the city. Therefore, some regions since their establishment, do not have a dentist. 淲e need a clear and strict regulation such as with the program of Scholar檚 Mandatory Work, he stated.
The policy or regulation should be made by the central government. So, students just graduated are mandated to start practice in the remote regions. Some considered this as human rights violation. But if we think deeply, is not letting the outermost regions without a dentist even a greater violation of human rights?
This uneven distribution also affects other dangerous problem such as uncertified dental practitioners which provide dental medication without ever studied in dental medicine. People who are trusted with others lives should have been in medicine studies.
If this scholar compulsory practice program is implemented, the government must have provided their salary. It might make to government to rethink the plan when obviously, it is the challenge.
Fundamental
We need to emphasize that dental problems are fundamental. An infection of the teeth can cause internal organ diseases such as heart, nerves, kidneys and other organs. There is a correlation between dental nerves and the organs of the body. 淔or example, if a person wants to have heart operation, to replace heart valve, dental check should be done at least a week before to make sure that there are no bad or infected teeth. If it is not considered, it can cause fatal effect to the heart, he stated.
UNAIR as an education institution has significant role in producing quality dentists. FKG which has been established since 1928 and the oldest faculty of dental medicine has the responsibility to contribute to the society. Moreover, the faculty already has had the Dental and Oral Hospital with complete facility and modern.
Faculty of Dental Medicine UNAIR also has a dynamic relationship with Faculty of Medicine, so the basic of medical studies related to dental medicine are taught as well to the medical students. This synergy will strengthen 51动漫. (*)
