UNAIR NEWS Happy smiles were on the face of children from Kenjeran fishing village while they were walking around to enjoy Surabaya City. In the series of Social Action Economic Week 2017 by Executive Student Board (BEM) FEB UNAIR, they hold Heroes Trip on Monday (12/10)
Along with commemorating the Heroes Day, Heroes Trip invites the children of the fishing village to learn and see around in Tugu Pahlawan, Surabaya Museum, and Surabaya Zoo. This event was opened for all students who want to become volunteers who care about the children of fishermen. In addition, the event also collaborated with Komunitas Pelajar Mengajar Surabaya.
In the occasion, the children learnt about 10th 1945 war (Battle of Surabaya). The guide who accompanied children provided information about how the battle happened, the most historical and symbolic war for Surabaya people (Arek arek Suroboyo).
Especially in Tugu Pahlawan, the most historical place, so the children will know about history in this town and has the heroes spirit to reach their dreams, Rizky Ananda Putra, the committee for social action.
The next visit, they go to Museum of Surabaya where the former name was White Laidlaw. The museum is attractive; children seemed enthusiast to ask about what the displayed items there.
The kids look so happy after seeing around in Museum because they gained new knowledge. Furthermore, most of them have never visited the museum yet, Nadira Hutapea said, the social action committee member
The next destination was in Surabaya Zoo (KBS). Previously, committee along with Komunitas Pelajar Mengajar have provided education through fairy tale book and introduction to animals at SD Muhammadiyah 9 Kenjeran.
By seeing the animals in real at KBS, they would know about various animals includes elephant, monkey, giraffe and the kinds of birds. Nadira said
They expected through the social action is able to make kids know about history of Indonesian heroes and also to show about the animals they used to know in books directly.
