UNAIR NEWS – Public relations division (PR) is at the forefront of maintaining the image of the institution in public. The reputation of an institution depends on the role of the public relations division in building relationships with the public. Therefore, public relations staff must be qualified to have the ability of communication and relationships that fit the demands of the times.
In an effort to fulfill that capability, the Department of Communication Science FISIP, 51动漫 (UNAIR) in cooperation with Surabaya Communication Studies Center (Puskakom) held a PR Training and Protocols of Higher Education in the Hall of Amerta, Campus C, UNAIR, Tuesday, October 24.
The training was aimed to increase knowledge about the world of public relations in paying attention to technical skills that are usually forgotten.“The world of protocols is highly compatible.Small mistakes can be fatal if it is ignored. This is a stake of public relations because it relates to the image, “said Dra.Liestianingsih Dwi D.M.Si.as the person in charge of the event.
The two-day training will discuss the world of protocol and media relations.Humas should have more knowledge on the development of the current era of openness.Rapid developments require the public relations to be responsive to the problem.Participants in the training came from public relations representatives from faculties and UNAIR units, and members of Perhumas Surabaya.
Suko Widodo, as the Head of UNAIR Public Relation, stated that the public has become an information producer.Society is not only an information consumer, but it can also produce or duplicate information.According to him, public relations should have sufficient knowledge in addressing the era of openness.“Public relations at this time should be based on research and information technology,” he said.
According to Suko, there are still many institutions that do not understand the public relations tasks. Moreover, in the current digital era, public relations is required to be responsive in addressing the problem. In fact, the role of public relations is crucial to contribute to institutionl advancement, it was not considered as a shield.
Aris Agung Paewai, Head of the East Java Government Protocols, said similar thing.According to him, public relations should have a high knowledge. In addition to following existing laws, protocols must be flexible and remain moderate. It means that the protocol staffs must be able to put themselves to be able to create comfort in one event.“They must be firm and always in coordination, the next important thing to minimize miscommunication,” he said.
The training is expected to be a mean to discussions among the public relations in Surabaya.“Not only Surabaya, in the future, this activity is expected to be an embryo for university public relations association in East Java,” said Suko who is also a lecturer of Communication Sciences, FISIP, UNAIR.
