UNAIR NEWS– Sharing knowledge and building dreams.That is how NEWSreporter team feelwhen they held a journalism class for children in riverbank of Jagir area, Surabaya.Being held in a modest hall, dozens of children were so enthusiastic about joining journalism class which was held on Saturday, January 20.
Nuri Hermawan, one of the reporters ofUNAIR NEWS, stated that his participation in the site was from the Urban Care team.In addition, the team also wanted to share knowledge and experience to the children in the riverbank of Jagir.
“We got information from Urban Care colleagues.From there, we were given a schedule to provide material around the world of journalism, “he explained.
In the journalism class, Nuri and the team provide media-related material and insight on being a journalist, especially to stimulate the children to speak about anything.In addition to giving exposure to various media names and how they work, UNAIR NEWS taught the children how to do interviews.
“Most of them are familiar with various social media and TV station names.But, when we asked the name of the newspaper, only a few children can mention it, “he explained.“This is one indication that reading habit is a problem for all of us,” he added.
Feri Fenoria who is also a reporterof UNAIR NEWS, said that it was a fun activity especially when acted as journalists and resource persons.Although the questions and theme was determined, the children of elementary school really enjoyed it.
“So we invited them to become a real journalist with tools for coverage,” said Feri.
Regarding the presence ofUNAIR NEWSreporter team, Wachidatul Qomariah, one of the volunteer and founder of Urban Care, said that she often received volunteer’s visit to share knowledge and experience.
“Most of them (volunteers, ed) were a bit awkward at first,” said the woman who is familiarly called Icha.
“The kids here are amazing.Extra attention and patience are needed to educate them, ” she added.(*)
