Journalism Visiting Lecture, Synergy of Theory and Practice

UNAIR NEWS Involving practitioners directly to the lesson will give students deeper insights. It was done by Department of Indonesian Literature, 51 through a visiting lecture titled Tips on How to Write Opinion in Mass Media.

The event held in Siti Parwati Hall on Wednesday, December 7, was opened by Vice Dean I FIB UNAIR Puji Karyanto, M.Hum. In his address, Puji said that the event was a part of the department efforts to improve quality of students in understanding Journalism from the practitioners.

Through this lecture, I hope there are a lot of things shared and introduced the students to Journalism, Puji said.

As the moderator of the lecture wasProf. Ida Bagus Putera Manuaba, M.Hum. who said that she wanted this course she handles can be directly applied by students. Furthermore, the first professor of FIB UNAIR also hoped that by inviting practitioners among the students, they will be more motivated.

We hope that the students can be more productive through direct experience on the field, she said.

The first speaker which discussed about opinion composition, Agus Muttaqin, stated that there are some things about opinion characteristics and how to draft it. The editor of opinion column in Jawa Pos said emphasized that the most important things in writing opinion in media are communicative, brief and to the point language.

Readers nowadays tend to expect brief, enjoyable and easy to read composition, he said.

The second material was from Frido Sri Adawina. The alumnus of Indonesian Literature working as language editor in Jawa Pos explained that as editors, they have to know what the readers need. In Frido opinion, a good newspaper language is the one which makes the readers pleased.

Good newspapers language makes readers pleased. By pleasing them, they will grasp the information in the news, Frido said. (*)
