UNAIR NEWS Information and communication technology advancement has brought significant changes in education. Live streaming and video conference technology has brought advantages for lecturers and students so they can always update their knowledge easily and fast.
Realizing this technology usefulness, the Internal medicine specialist alliance of Faculty of Medicine (FK) 51动漫-Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, in Asia Pacific Medical Network Project, took part in Telemedicine Development Center of Asia (TEMDEC) held in Kyushu University Hospital on Thursday, January 19.
In the latest TEMDEC, 4th Indonesian Endoscopy Case Teleconference, organized in FK UNAIR Digital Data management, the topic of discussion was gastroenterology and endoscopic treatment or medical examination of digestive system as stated by Coordinator of TEMDEC FK UNAIR Budi Widodo, dr., SpPD.
In the teleconference, the organizer of TEMDEC, Kyushu University Hospital shared their experience on handling gastroenterology cases. 淜yushu University Hospital is well-known for telemedicine and they have made telemedicine popular in medical field, she said.
TEMDEC also involved participations of some teaching hospitals in Indonesia such as Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas Padjadjaran, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and RS Fatmawati.
Once a month, each institution holds a teleconference to discuss problems on digestive system. The focus of the discussion is varied. In turn, every institution representative presents a case they handle.
After a case presentation, there was a discussion between the institutions to handle the case. As planned, the fifth TEMDEC will be held in February. There will be a team of Indian doctors joining for the telemedicine session.
Effective Method
Budi believed that video conferenceor video streaming is an effective method for education. The knowledge sharing can be done anywhere and anytime. This method also reaches more students virtually and integrated with other universities.
淭his method makes us each member of TEMDEC contribute actively. We do not need to go far to Kyushu to learn. We just need to sit and concentrate in front of the monitors, we have learned and got a lot of knowledge at the same time. It is an effective and efficient method and it is a lot more economical, he said.
Live streaming technology is needed for lecturers and students as a media to facilitate a discussion about latest disease. As there are even more diseases, the doctors are expected to always update their knowledge. (*)
